Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data RentersReady handles, why, and the rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

Who is responsible for your data

RentersReady is run by Rana Usman Ahmad, who is the data controller for this site. You can contact the controller about anything in this policy at hello@ranausmanahmad.com.

What you type into the tools

The compliance checker, rent increase checker and written statement generator run entirely in your browser. Tenancy details, dates, names and addresses you enter are not sent to us, not stored by us and not shared with anyone. When you close or refresh the page, they are gone. If you print or save a statement, that copy is yours alone.

What we do collect

  • Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records technical details of each request, such as your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser type. These are used to keep the site secure and working, on the basis of our legitimate interest in doing so, and are kept only for the limited period set by the hosting provider.
  • Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to reply and to act on corrections, on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you, and we delete it once it is no longer needed for that.

We do not run accounts, sign-ups, newsletters or contact forms, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

Cookies and analytics

At present this site does not set any cookies and does not use analytics. Fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not send your details to a font provider. If we add analytics in future, this policy will be updated before it goes live, and we will ask for your consent first wherever the law requires it.

Advertising

To keep the site free, we intend to show advertising provided by Google AdSense. This section applies once ads are running.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Google explains how it uses this information in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
  • Before any advertising or other non-essential cookies are set, you will be shown a consent message where you can accept or refuse them, and you can change your choice at any time. If you refuse, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised using cookies.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and from many other advertising vendors at Your Online Choices. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

The lawful basis for advertising cookies is your consent. Google may process data outside the UK; where it does, it relies on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. To use any of these rights, email hello@ranausmanahmad.com. We will respond within one month. Because the tools do not send us what you type, we will usually hold little or nothing about you beyond any emails you have sent.

If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

We link to official sources such as gov.uk and legislation.gov.uk. Those sites have their own privacy policies. RentersReady is written for adult landlords and tenants and is not aimed at children.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever the way the site handles data changes, including before advertising or analytics are switched on.
